Tracking applications in the Apply tab

Apply 5 min read

Applying to grants is a process, not a single click. The Apply tab keeps that process in one place across four sections: Pipeline, Answers, Calendar, and Compare. Here is how each one works.

Quick summary Pipeline is a Kanban board (researching, applied, won) you drag grants across. Answers stores reusable answers so you stop rewriting the same thing. Calendar tracks deadlines and gives you an ICS feed. Compare puts grants side by side so you choose well.

Open the Apply tab

Select Apply in the app. Inside you will find the four sections. Everything here is scoped to the startup active in your startup switcher, so check that first if you run more than one.

Pipeline: your Kanban board

The Pipeline section is a Kanban board with columns for the stages of an application: researching, applied, and won. Each grant you are pursuing is a card you drag across the board as things progress.

To move a grant through the pipeline:

  1. Add a grant by opening it in the Grants tab and using its Apply link. It lands in Pipeline as researching.
  2. While you gather documents and draft answers, keep it in researching.
  3. Once you submit the application, drag the card to applied.
  4. When you hear back and the grant comes through, drag it to won.

The board gives you a one-glance view of how many grants you are working, how many are out for decision, and how many you have landed.

Answers: reusable application answers

Most grant forms ask the same things: your problem statement, your team, your use of funds. The Answers section is where you write these once and reuse them. Save a clean version of each common answer, then pull it into the next application instead of rewriting from scratch. It keeps your messaging consistent and saves hours across a season of applications.

Calendar: deadlines and the ICS feed

The Calendar section gathers the deadlines for the grants you are tracking so nothing slips. You can subscribe to its ICS feed to see those deadlines inside Google Calendar or Apple Calendar alongside the rest of your schedule. For the full walkthrough, see never miss a deadline.

Compare: grants side by side

The Compare section lets you put grants next to each other so you can weigh them on the things that matter: amount, deadline, eligibility, and fit. When you have several candidates and limited time, comparing them directly is the fastest way to decide which ones deserve a real application.

Tip Use Compare before you load up your Pipeline. It is better to research three well-chosen grants than to half-pursue ten. Compare first, then move only the best into researching.
