Atal Incubation Centres: what the grant actually pays for

Central scheme Last updated 23 October 2026 3 min read By Mahesh Kadamkode, Incubateer

One scheme, checked against its own portal: what it actually pays, and the rule that catches founders out. Always confirm the current round on the official site before you build a plan around a number.

The Atal Innovation Mission gives an Atal Incubation Centre up to ₹10 crore over at most five years. That money builds and runs the centre. It is not a pool that startups apply to, and no part of it is promised to you. Every figure below was read off aim.gov.in on 17 October 2026.

Who receives the ₹10 crore

The grant-in-aid goes to the incubation centre itself, for its capital and operating costs. It shows up in startup "funding" lists because the number is large and the word Atal is familiar. For a founder, the right question is what a particular centre offers its startups, and that varies from centre to centre.

"Access to seed capital" has no number

AIM lists access to seed capital among what a centre can offer, without an amount. So any figure you see for "AIC seed funding", whether ₹2 lakh or ₹5 lakh, comes from a single centre's own programme or from another scheme it runs, not from AIM. Ask the centre directly what it funds, how much, and on what terms, including whether it takes equity.

Who it suits

A founder who wants a structured incubator with space, mentors and a network, and who is near one of the centres.

Before you apply

Find the centres near you on the AIM page, then read each centre's own call. If a centre's terms differ from what you read elsewhere, the centre's call is right.

To see grants you can apply to directly, run your profile through the grant catalog.

Common questions

Can my startup get ₹10 crore from the Atal Innovation Mission?

No. The up to ₹10 crore grant goes to an Atal Incubation Centre for its own capital and operating costs, over at most five years.

Do Atal Incubation Centres give seed funding?

AIM lists access to seed capital without an amount. Any figure comes from a centre's own programme, so ask the centre what it funds and on what terms.

How do I join an Atal Incubation Centre?

Find a centre near you on aim.gov.in and apply to its own call. Each centre runs its own selection.
